Pharma-Partners have been retained to search for a Vice President of Global Medical Affairs, a senior leadership role at a small and rapidly expanding business. As they increase their Global Medical Affairs (GMA) footprint our client is looking to appoint a senior Pharmaceutical Physician into the business. The VP, Global Medical Affairs is to be a dynamic professional with exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.

The successful candidate will be the lead scientific representative for products worldwide and accountable for engaging top tier therapy area experts for marketed and pipeline products. The VP, Global Medical Affairs will line manage the GMA team whilst continuing its planned global growth, and have additional responsibility for managing the Medical Information, Medical Education, and Professionals Relations functions.

As part of the Leadership Team the VP, Global Medical Affairs will steer the scientific focus of the business whilst providing technical support to, and work collaboratively with, Marketing and Commercial functions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Global Medical Affairs leadership to the business
  • Global line management of the Medical Affairs team including Medical Directors, Medical Advisors, and Medical Science Liaisons
  • Recruit Medical Affairs professionals in the appropriate geographies to support business reach
  • Devise and implement business-wide medical strategy
  • Effectively manage strong relationships with internal stakeholders
  • Provide scientific expertise to other functions
  • Map and engage with top-tier thought leaders and public bodies worldwide
  • Establish a relationship with professional societies to ensure the business anticipates any potential guideline changes and adapt strategy accordingly
  • Devise robust product launch plans to ensure a successful entry to market
  • Provide clinical input into commercial campaigns
  • Provide medical counsel for publications, educational materials, and study protocols advisory boards, educational grant requests, and patient advocacy grant requests
  • Support colleagues with IITs
  • Plan and execute global Medical Education events
  • Exude company values at all times
  • Frequent international travel (up to 50% of the time)

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • Must hold a Medical Degree (or equivalent) ideally supported by board certification in, or to be a CCT in; Immunology, Internal Medicine, Infectious Disease or similar
  • Substantial pharmaceutical industry experience which must include Medical Affairs
  • Above country Medical Affairs experience is desirable (EU, EMEA, APAC)
  • Additional experience in Clinical Development or Pharmacovigilance would be beneficial
  • Previous line management of a Medical Affairs function (on an international scale would be beneficial)
  • Matrix leadership of cross-functional teams
  • Confident worker in a small, high-growth environment
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership skills and desire to coach
  • Credible publication record
  • Multilingual speaker is seen as beneficial
  • Availability to travel up to 50% of the time

 

Remuneration:

  • The successful candidate will receive a highly competitive basic salary and remuneration package to include equity, RSUs, and options, and a significant annual bonus
  • Other benefits are commensurate with a VP level role
