UK Therapy Medical Director - Rare Diseases

Pharma-Partners is working with an established mid-sized global biotechnology organisation as it looks to hire a senior medical affairs professional as an important member of its newly restructured UK medical affairs leadership team. This business has a solid presence in multiple therapy areas, with growth in the rare disease space expected through current pipeline products and in-licensing opportunities.

Reporting to the UK Country Medical Director, who is an experienced pharmaceutical physician, you will lead strategic interactions internally across various departments and also link closely to Regional and Global medical affairs activities. This role line manages a team of head office and field-based medical affairs staff, which will continue to grow under your guidance.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, direct, and develop a medical team with varying developmental needs
  • Act as the local medical figurehead in providing marketing with efficient and quality PMCPA/IPHA compliant approval services
  • Direct and lead interactions with senior external stakeholders across the therapy area, including KOL networking and maintenance of HCP relationships
  • Influence corporate approval for local Phase IV and Investigator Initiated Studies (IIS) that are in line with local strategic objectives
  • Budget and resource responsibility for your medical function in close coordination with Finance colleagues based on agreed business plans

Requirements:

  • Life science qualification (Physician, Pharmacist or MSc/PhD Scientist)
  • If a Physician or Pharmacist you should be GMC / GPhC registered
  • An experienced medical affairs leader who has line managed in at least one previous industry role ideally over a number of years
  • Experienced champion of the ABPI Code of Practice and the role of medical in how a company adheres to compliance guidelines
  • Experience in rare diseases is beneficial though not essential
  • Someone driven by a collaborative approach to their work and agile decision-making
  • An individual who can lead by delegating accountability to their team, and empowering others to succeed
