Therapy Medical Head - Oncology

Pharma-Partners is supporting a 'Top 10' Global pharmaceutical business to hire an important leadership role best suited to an experienced medical affairs physician. This company is well established in multiple therapy areas, and for Oncology you would act as the UK medical head sat above a team made up of head office and field-based staff. The Oncology portfolio is a healthy size and should grow considerably in the next few years, with new drug launches expected to bring various types of cancer treatment to market.

Working as part of a leadership group including other Therapy Medical Heads and the Country Medical Director, this role will steer how Global medical affairs strategy transcends affiliate activity. Beyond expanding the Oncology portfolio in the affiliate in the next few years, this business has seen previous affiliate leaders step in to Regional or Global roles so there is good internal progression opportunity for the right person.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, direct, and develop a head office and field-based medical affairs team
  • Act as the medical lead for input into the Oncology Business Unit, ensuring commercial teams such as Sales & Marketing, as well as Regulatory & Pharmacovigilance, are adequately and effectively supported
  • Influence Global medical affairs colleagues to ensure therapy strategy supports local affiliate requirements
  • Oversee Key Opinion Leader (KOL) interaction conducted by your medical team, ensuring engagements are carried out ethically and in line with the needs of these external stakeholders
  • Take the lead on working with compliance teams for the Oncology product portfolio, working to ensure transparency and a uniform approach to all customer facing code requirements
  • Provide wider medical support to other functions aligned to all/any Oncology products e.g. Market Access

Requirements:

  • Qualified physician (full GMC registration or equivalent)
  • Significant post-qualification experience in clinical medicine in the NHS or equivalent
  • An experienced medical affairs physician who ticks one of the following boxes:
    • An experienced leader of medical affairs teams (ideally with multiple layers) who may be inexperienced in Oncology yet excited by this therapy area
    • An experienced medical affairs physician who has worked in Oncology extensively over many years (ideally both clinically and in industry) who has the aptitude to take on management of a large team potentially for the first time in their career
  • Experienced ABPI Final Medical Signatory
  • Ideally undertaking or has completed Pharmaceutical Medicine Specialty Training (PMST)
  • An individual who understands the complexities of working closely with Global teams
  • Someone driven by a collaborative approach to their work and decision-making
