Medical Director - UK & Ireland

Pharma-Partners is working with a well-established small yet growing pharma organisation to hire a new Medical Director for the UK & Ireland. This organisation has a specialist therapeutic focus, with a number of marketed products in a competitive space. Recent growth for this business has come particularly in Europe, with new affiliates being built alongside what is already an established UK/Ire operation.

As the Medical Director for this affiliate and as part of the country senior leadership team, the incumbent will be involved in strategic decision-making for medical affairs, compliance, and regulatory affairs. You will line manage a small MSL team as well as staff in compliance, drug safety, regulatory, and medical information. You will also work closely with other department heads to ensure internal and external codes of ethical best practice (e.g. ABPI Code of Practice) are adhered to.

Responsibilities:

  • Implementation and execution of Global medical affairs strategy at a local for the UK & Ireland, working closely with the CMO and Global medical affairs colleagues as well as local commercial/marketing colleagues
  • Acts as the leader for affiliate medical affairs decision-making, working with other senior leaders to ensure medical has a sound voice within the business at all times
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with KOLs and HCPs, which includes driving your team's interactions with the external market to foster collaborative scientific and medical communication
  • Act as an ABPI Final Medical Signatory and vocal champion of medical affairs best practice when it comes to revising medico-marketing materials
  • Liaise directly with regulatory authorities (e.g. MHRA) where appropriate as the company brings new indications to market through potential in-licensing and line extensions
  • Represent the organisation when required at national, regional, and international meetings and congresses

Requirements:

  • Fully GMC registered Physician or GPhC registered Pharmacist
  • Significant post-qualification experience in clinical medicine or clinical pharmacy
  • Significant experience in medical affairs in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Prior line management experience in medical affairs
  • ABPI Final Medical Signatory status is required
  • Ability to work in a small fast-paced environment, where quick decision making is the norm and where there are not layers of red tape to get things done
  • Someone with the drive and energy to motivate others
