Medical Director - UK&I

Pharma-Partners is recruiting a newly created leadership position for a small, growing pharmaceutical company. Our client has marketed products across therapeutic areas including orphan drugs and have invested heavily to create a strong pipeline with multiple molecules across Phase I-III. There is a particularly bright future in the Neurology space for this company, having put in for their first marketing authorisation to the EMA and consequent launches to come in the next few years.

This role takes the lead on all local Medical Affairs strategy and is accountable for building a brand-new therapeutically aligned team. The Medical Director is responsible for being the medical expert providing leadership to internal and external stakeholders, aligning all activities in line with regulatory and legal frameworks, and establishing a close working relationship with global teams.

With no UK history in the therapy area this role will play a key part in implementing new standards, establishing the business as a competitor in the Neurology space, and take ownership for building our clients' medical footprint in this field.

Responsibilities:

  • Build, motivate and manage a Medical Affairs and ensure high levels of efficiency and overall output of the UK medical function
  • Management of compliance for promotional materials in line with regulations such as the ABPI Code of Practice, including supporting other departments with compliance adherence
  • Develop medical strategy and effectively execute plans
  • Align plans in collaboration with business partners in global and EU teams Be the scientific and medical expert for the business within the therapy area
  • Ensuring strong relationships are maintained with external stakeholders such as HCPs, KOLs, as well as regulatory bodies such as the MHRA and NICE

Requirements:

  • Medically qualified (MBBS, MBChB, MD or equivalent) strongly preferred although Pharmacists (BPharm, MPharm or equivalent) also considered
    • Relevant registrations in the UK are essential
  • Significant experience in medical affairs
  • Must be an ABPI Final Medical Signatory
  • Experience of line managing a team within medical affairs
  • Product launch experience
  • A background in Neurology is highly preferred, in either clinical or pharmaceutical medicine
  • Other therapy areas to be considered include Respiratory or Consumer Healthcare
  • Good knowledge of the NHS with a proven track record of collaborating with KOLs and analysing scientific and clinical data to support medical strategy
  • Strong leadership skills
  • A good communicator, with tangible experience of working collaboratively with non-medical departments in a fast-paced commercial environment
