EMEA Regional Medical Director - Oncology Devices

Pharma-Partners is working exclusively with a small Global pharma-device organisation, as it looks to expand its regional leadership team for the Europe, Middle East & Africa cluster. This organisation has a unique therapeutic-device combination to bring to market, which is a high-impact treatment for liver cancer patients. This is a newly created Medical Director post, which will see the incumbent manage both "top level" strategic and "on the ground" operational medical affairs and clinical development activities.

Given the nature of this hybrid medical affairs/clinical development role, the postholder would work closely with the Regional General Manager and their commercial team, as well with the Global R&D VP and their EMEA project management & clin ops team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead regional medical affairs activities driven primarily by your direct engagement with Oncology KOLs and clinical/academic cancer centres across the EMEA region
  • Lead clinical development efforts through on-going development and execution of the regional clinical development plan
  • Executing the CD plan will include leading identification and assessment of new therapeutic targets and treatment strategies, which includes assessing disease modification opportunities
  • Provide oversight of regional medical affairs colleagues (e.g. MSLs) as commercial activities grow and greater medical affairs support is required regionally and locally
  • Uphold the highest standards of ethical compliance with country-specific and regional codes of practice, relating to Good Clinical Practice as well as for all things medical affairs
  • Be the internal medical/scientific expert for cross-functional teams (e.g. Marketing, Sales, Quality Assurance, Clin Ops, Drug Safety)
  • Support market access and reimbursement decision-making and external engagement with payors

Candidate Requirements:

  • Medically qualified (MD, MBBS, MBChB or equivalent)
  • Post-qualification clinical experience in Oncology and/or Haematology
  • Significant pharmaceutical industry experience in medical affairs, ideally in a leadership or strategic decision-making role, although this could represent a "step up" role for the right candidate
  • Regional or Global medical affairs experience is an advantage
  • Pharma experience in Oncology, though you do not need to have worked in Devices previously
  • Some time spent in clinical research before or during your pharma career is a big plus
  • You'll need to bring a proven and well-maintained network of Oncology KOLs and an expertise in building new relationships with this type of external stakeholder
  • Someone who is happy doing both the top-end strategic work and the frontline operational work in equal measure - this is a small company with limited resource where everyone goes the extra mile and needs to pull in the same direction
